The NMC OSCE Preparation Programme supports workforce needs by providing education resources for NHS Scotland Health Boards recruiting international nurses.

International nurses seeking UK registration must complete the NMC Test of Competence OSCE. A Once for Scotland approach has been taken to ensure nurses undertaking NMC OSCE have access to OSCE-focussed preparation through:

  • Online learning
  • Simulation-based learning (SBL)
  • Mock exam

NHSSA has designed this OSCE Preparation Programme to support nurse educators and international nurse learners through the NMC OSCE.

OSCE Preparation for Nurse Educators

OSCE preparation resources have been developed in collaboration with NHS Boards and are available as online modules. They will provide nurse educators with the knowledge, skills and tools required to support and deliver OSCE education and preparation.

OSCE Preparation for International Nurse Learners (Adult Nursing)

Our OSCE learning resources for international nurse learners will guide and support their OSCE preparation journey. These resources will complement the NMC Test of Competence Resources that international nurse learners are provided with by their NMC Test Centre.

OSCE Preparation for Midwifery and Mental Health Nursing

The NHS Scotland Academy 'Once for Scotland' midwifery and mental health nursing NMC OSCE Preparation online digital resources for learners and educators are now live on Turas Learn!

NHSSA has developed these eLearning resources to guide and support international nurses and midwives preparing for the NMC OSCE part of the Test of Competence 2021.

We have designed them to develop learner knowledge and confidence, along with simulation-based learning (SBL) programmes and skills rehearsals.

The modules provide useful guidance for all NMC OSCE stations. They include video demonstrations for several of the skills stations and examples for written stations. They also provide some helpful information about self-care and how to manage anxiety on the day of your OSCE examination.

These modules should be used to complement the resources provided by NMC Test of Competence Centres.
