Get ready for work in health and social care

The Preparing for work in Health and Social Care in Scotland Programme has been designed to support new and existing staff to deliver safe, effective, person-centred care.

The programme was developed by the NHS Scotland Academy at the request of the Scottish Government to support those new to the Health or Social Care employment.

The programme has been split into two distinct sections to enable both Health, and Social Care employees to access the content most relevant to them.

The Healthcare Programme

The Healthcare Programme is in two parts, one containing practical skills modules and the other containing non-technical skills modules, both of which are essential to the healthcare environment.

As the new employee you should undertake each module as many times as you like to ensure you are aware and familiar with the content. Some of the content requires you to view links to resources to support your wider understanding of the topic.

Your completion of each module will be acknowledged, and your board will be able to access this information.

You will also receive an E certificate for each session you complete.

The Social Care Programme

The Scottish Government together with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) are currently developing a national induction framework for adult care services in Scotland. This will be ready by May 2022.
