What is the Biomedical Science Registration Training Portfolio Programme?
This programme will support the preparation of biomedical science graduates from non-applied Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)-accredited degree programmes (i.e. those without a clinical placement) to complete the IBMS Registration Training Portfolio (IBMS RTP).
It is the first national (non-applied) Biomedical Scientist training programme in Scotland and has the endorsement of the IBMS.
The programme will facilitate the accelerated completion of the IBMS RTP by supporting trainees to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and competence at the appropriate level to successfully apply to register with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.
We will work in partnership with the designated Training Officer/Training Manager in the trainee’s own IBMS approved training laboratories to support a positive, quality-assured learning experience.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a place, trainees must:
- Be employed as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist within an Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) approved NHS Scotland Board laboratory
- Be ready and eligible to undertake the IBMS RTP
- Be familiar with the IBMS Registration Training Portfolio Version 5.0
- Have undergone training on OneFile; and
- Have the support of their employing laboratory for attendance at all-day release sessions (11 days in total, approx. 2 days per week over 6 weeks. All sessions delivered online).
National Endoscopy Training Programme
The National Endoscopy Training Programme (NETP) provides training to improve the quality of endoscopy care for patients in Scotland, helping provide the clinical capacity needed to address endoscopy and cancer waiting times.
The NETP aims to increase endoscopy capacity through the development of a highly skilled and sustainable endoscopy workforce, minimising repeat procedures and improving patient experience.
